Customize field labels
Rename standard contract field labels for your organization. Overrides apply across the UI and AI chat.
You can override the display labels of many standard contract fields so terminology matches your organization (for example, Start Date → Effective Date).
Labels are cosmetic: they do not change stored data, permissions, or analysis logic—only how the field reads in the product.
Where to change them
Go to Admin → Contract Management tab → and open Field Label Customization (or Customize Labels / Manage from the admin card, depending on your layout).
Search and overview
- Use Search fields… to find a field quickly when the list is long. Search matches the internal field name, the default label, or your custom label.
- When at least one field has been overridden, you’ll see a count such as N fields customized.
Edit, save, or reset
- Each row shows the current label (or the default if you have not customized it yet). Click the pencil to edit (Add custom label or Edit label).
- In the editor you’ll see Default: <original label> for reference, and Your label for the new text.
- Use Save / Cancel (or Enter to save, Escape to cancel).
- If a field has a custom label, you can Reset to default (undo icon). Resetting applies everywhere the label was used, including AI chat.
What you can label
This screen lists standard contract fields drawn from the app’s column catalog—examples include Title, Summary, Contract Type, Primary counterparty, Execution Date, Execution Status, Contract Owner, Start Date, End Date, Auto Renewal, and other extracted/metadata fields.
A few fields are not editable here (for example, internal identifiers such as raw file name or analysis status).
Custom attributes (fields you define under Admin → Custom Fields) are named in Custom Fields using Display name. They are not managed on this Field Label Customization screen (they follow a separate resolution order in views and tables).
Where labels appear
- Contract views (column headers, filters where applicable)
- Contract detail and related surfaces
- AI chat — so users and the assistant see the same vocabulary for standard fields
Who can use this
Field Label Customization is an admin capability. If you do not see it, ask your administrator about your role.
